Linda Powers & Larry Dailey- Open Studio Visit
Linda studied Studio Art and Art History at the University of Minnesota, Morris, where she had the opportunity to work with several talented fine art professors. These experiences helped her build a strong foundation for observing the world, appreciating light and shadows, and developing the skills needed to express her artistic vision.
Linda is a highly accomplished artist, with her botanical artworks accepted into regional, national, and international exhibits. Her works are held in prestigious collections, including the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden Florilegium and The Huntington Library, Art Collections, & Botanical Gardens, as well as several private collections.

Larry Dailey studied photography and philosophy during his college years, but his professional career took a different direction—into Information Technology, where he spent the majority of his working life in the airline industry with Northwest and Delta Air Lines. During those years, photography took a back seat.
In the past two decades, however, especially during the later part of his career and into retirement, Larry and his wife Linda have embraced a shared passion for travel and photography. Thanks in part to airline travel benefits, they’ve journeyed extensively, developing a deep appreciation for the natural world. Together, they enjoy hiking, birdwatching, and gathering subject matter for Linda’s botanical art, which often begins with field sketches, color studies, and photographic reference.
Their travels have taken them to every continent except Antarctica, with a focus on areas of stunning natural beauty: rainforests, cloud forests, mountains, deserts, and prairies. Whether through the camera lens or paintbrush, they’ve worked to document and celebrate the diverse landscapes, plants, and wildlife encountered along the way.
Among their favorite destinations is the Gunflint Trail and the North Shore of Lake Superior—a region they’ve visited many times and hold dear. Larry is especially excited to spend more time exploring the far end of the Gunflint Trail, continuing to observe, document, and share the rich flora and fauna that make the area so unique.
During their stay, Linda will be exploring the Gunflint Trail in search of small treasures to add to her collection. If you see them driving around, taking photographs, or sketching, please say hello!
Linda and her husband, Larry, will have an open studio session on May 22 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, located at 166 Round Lake Road, Grand Marais, MN. The Artist Residence is located 48 miles up the Gunflint Trail, off County Road 47. Look for the Cross Creek House property sign.
This is more than just an artistic residency—it’s a celebration of beauty, detail, and the stories hidden in the wild.
