Kyle Johnson – Minnesota Moths
Kyle Johnson has been studying moths for the past 36 years – since age five – from all over Minnesota and Wisconsin to the wilds of Alaska. He is particularly interested in biodiversity inventories, fauna of different habitats, and conservation/management concerns. He currently conducts moth surveys for the Minnesota Biological Survey (MN-DNR) and small projects for various conservation organizations outside of Minnesota.
The presentation will cover why moths are important, their diversity in Minnesota, how to find them, and conservation concerns.
This presentation will be held at the Chik-Wauk Nature Center.
Kyle will offer later in the evening, dependent on weather a moth field trip. Return around dusk and stay as late as you’re comfortable. The outing will feature strange lights and fermenting fruit baits. Be sure to bring a headlamp or flashlight.
All presentations are family-friendly and free to the public.
Donations are always appreciated. Take your time driving up the Gunflint Trail National Scenic Byway!
Presentations are sponsored by Visit Cook County and the GTHS Gift Club!
