Keith Wendt will provide an overview of how climate change interacts with and amplifies current threat to conserving our lands and waters in the North Woods. Climate change directly impacts our region’s forest types, waters, and wildlife. Climate change also drives the spread of invasive species, amplifies outbreaks of pest populations, extends the wildfire season, and increase the probability of extreme weather events. Keith will share lessons learned in applying new tools and on-the-ground management actions designed to help the ecosystems of the North Woods adapt to an uncertain and changing climate future.
Keith has worked 34 years for the MN Department of Natural Resources before retiring in 2015. He has served as Plant Ecologist, Research Supervisor, and most recently as Science Policy Manager. Keith has a long history, dating back to 1989, working in partnership efforts to assess climate change risks in Minnesota and develop on-the-ground management actions to better protect the health and resiliency of the state’s natural landscapes. In 2006, Keith and his wife became grateful stewards of a little piece of land with cabin on the Gunflint Trail.
