Don and Ann Luce’ – A Shared Fascination with Water: Paintings by Don Luce and Photography and Video by Ann Luce

October 12 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Don Luce, a retired curator from the University’s Bell Museum, is the artist-in-residence for the Gunflint Trail Historical Society, at Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center this fall. In retirement, Don has pursued his long-standing interests in painting natural landscapes and ecological conservation. The focus of his residency with be exploring the shorelines of lakes through his paintings. In particular, he is interested in comparing the shorelines affected by storms and fire, with those that have escaped disturbance. Don’s wife Ann, a retired Montessori teacher, has been an avid photographer for many decades.

Both Don and Ann have long shared a passion for water. In his paintings, Don seeks to capture intimate views of the patterns of watery worlds. Streams, ponds, lakes, and particularly shorelines have been a focus of his fascination. In her photographs and especially her swimming videos Ann has immersed herself in the color and movement at the water’s surface. Her poetry gives viewers a deeper appreciation of each body of water she has explored. In this illustrated talk, Don and Ann will discuss the paths that have led them to their art and a shared commitment to the preservation of our natural world.

All presentations are family-friendly and free of charge.
