DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n**Opening Day for Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center**\nChik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center will open for the season on Saturday\, May 23\, 2026. \n**New Exhibit & Displays:**\n– The Museum has a complete new design visit the new Anishinaabe Exhibit \n“Gaa-zagaandagaag-zaaga’igan” is the Ojibwe word for the lake now known as “Saganaga”. Zagaandagaa-Anishinaabeg delves into the history\, culture\, and experiences of the native people of the border lakes region. The exhibit encompasses the museum’s front room space with nine new exhibit areas\, including an interactive map\, the story of Chief Blackstone’s Last Walk animated by Jonathon Thunder\, pre-historic and Fur Trade era artifacts never previously displayed\, and the popular Voyageur pack lift. A cozy corner invites visitors to listen to stories of Trail life passed down through generations. At the heart of the exhibit is a new mural by local artist Sam Zimmerman. \n**Exhibits and Hours:**\n– The Museum\, American Plan Interpretive Cabin\, and the Trapper Shack Exhibit Building will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.\n– The Nature Center will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.\n– The Watercraft Exhibit Building will also be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\n– New local crafters to the gift shop\, so be sure to stop by to check out the new exhibits. \n**Visit:**\nWelcome back to Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center this season! The buildings will be open daily from May 23 to October 18\, 2026. \n**Admission Rates:**\nAdmission includes access to all buildings:\n– $6 for adults (ages 19–64)\n– $3 for children (ages 5–18)\n– Discounts are available for senior citizens and military personnel.\n– Admission is free for members of the Gunflint Trail Historical Society.\n– Donations are always appreciated. \n**Getting Here:**\nTake your time driving up the Gunflint Trail National Scenic Byway! Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center is located 55 miles along the Gunflint Trail National Scenic Byway (Cook County Highway 12)\, just 1/4 mile off UT County Road 81\, on beautiful Saganaga Lake. \n     \n  \n
